John Mayer’s Mayercraft is Waxed and Ready to Go
Posted on Friday, March 27th, 2009
John Mayer’s Mayercraft is departing from San Pedro, California today and if you aren’t one of the lucky ones on the ship, you may still have a chance to go. The Mayercraft Carrier website still says there are less than 100 cabins left, starting at $879 per person. (Call 1-877-SIXTHMAN to book.)
Meanwhile, John, an avid and sometimes annoying Twitterer, has prepped for four-day cruise to Cabo by making sure his “area” is all waxed for the return of the neon yellow Borat-style mankini. Um. Ok.
Virgin Blue Flying A Bit Less Often
Posted on Friday, March 27th, 2009
Our favorite Aussie low-cost carrier Virgin Blue has been talking flight cutbacks for months and this week announced the biggest cuts so far–28 flights will be cut from its daily schedule to cut their operating costs and deal with decreased demand.
The nice part about Virgin Blue’s decision–and the reason we don’t dislike them too much–is they’re not actually cutting out any routes, just decreasing the number of services on some of them.
Unfortunately there might be 400 Virgin Blue staff who don’t like the company too much, because they’re either now having to take leave without pay or do shorter hours, while the lucky ones are getting transfers to V Australia. CEO Brett Godfrey, however, reckons the staff are happy and said, “We are very encouraged by the attitude of people.” He’s obviously forgotten about the disgruntled staff board games.

Always planned to go to China? This could be your year: Our relatives at Concierge.com spotted a great Newark-Shanghai fare in honor of Continental‘s newest Far East destination.
$315 one-way may not seem like such great shakes, but it’s way below what other carriers have asked for the same route. Pick among 9 cities (including hub Houston, New Orleans and Washington D.C.) to the largest city in China. Just don’t forget your stretches: It’s a 14-and-a-half hour nonstop from Newark.

Four More Places Left To Take In March Madness
Posted on Friday, March 27th, 2009
Please don’t judge us, but we had Duke in the Final Four. Even when we played with the scenario generator thing, we don’t know if we can even pull off second place. Maybe we can just write-off our gambling loss during the next tax season—probably not. Well, there’s always next year, but at least there’s still plenty of games to watch.
Only those on the west coast will have to sneak out a little early to check out the games today, but we say leave work and see the games in person. All those papers that you pushed around yesterday afternoon before you left will still be there on Monday. There’s four cities left where the Sweet 16 teams will battle it out for the last four spots, so here’s some suggestions if you’re in a few of them.
Bridget Takes On Jamaica And Learns The Rasta Way
Posted on Friday, March 27th, 2009
We missed Bridget checking out Croatia last week, but we figured we’d give her and the show a second shot when they traveled to Jamaica. They were all over the island, but came and went from Negril a couple of times. This week she swam with dolphins, drank with some old rich dude (not Hef), and ate jerk chicken and some starchy fruit that she barely choked down. With all the costume changes she does, mostly bikini focused of course, we can tell that she definitely pays extra to check two bags.
Bocas Del Toro: The Five Best Beaches in Bocas Del Toro
Posted on Friday, March 27th, 2009
Our own Brendan Spiegel is down in Panama this week and will be reporting back on all that he’s seen and done. Whether or not he’s wearing a Panama Hat, we can’t say. But if you have any questions or suggestions for him, let us know.
As we mentioned earlier in the week, Bocas Del Toro is home to the best island living Panama has on offer—this tiny strip of islands has a laid-back, good times beach vibe that is so relaxed you’ll inevitably feel the pull to stay indefinitely (and many people do).
But the only problem with Bocas Town (where most of the hotels and restaurants are), is that it’s gotten so built up there’s barely any beachfront to speak of. You can have your morning espresso and then leap right off the coffee shop’s deck into the Caribbean, but serious beach time—sand, waves, long walks and all that—requires a bit more of a trek. So we’ve spent this week hard at work scouring Bocas in search of its best true beaches (try not to feel too bad for us). After the jump, our take on Bocas’ most idyllic beach spots.
Pittsburgh: Visit the Real ‘Adventureland’ in Pittsburgh
Posted on Friday, March 27th, 2009
“Adventureland”, written and directed by Greg Mottola, who also directed “Superbad”, is a comedy about a recent college grad (Jesse Eisenberg) who gets a summer job at an amusement park working for two weirdo bosses (Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader. Then, just when his summer job seems hopeless, he falls for a co-worker (“Twilight’s” Kristen Stewart). “Adventureland” was filmed in and around Pittsburgh in the fall of 2007. Here’s your guide to adventure in Steel City.
What to Stay:
Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel, is located in the restored Fulton Building at 107 6th St and is, apparently, fit for a President. Though price may be a little high for Pittsburgh, about $199 a night, the Renaissance has a prime location near the city’s theaters, Heinz Field, PNC Park, and Mellon Arena.
