New York: From Famous Kitchens to the Skies: How Singapore Airlines Develops Their Menus

Porcini-crusted sea scallop with black trumpet mushrooms, yellowfoot chanterelles, leek, roman cauliflower and a frothy white wine reduction topper: that is what you are eating 39,000 feet up on a Singapore Airlines flight. And that's just the appetizer.
On Friday, we had the opportunity to stand back and observe as Chef Alfred Portale of New York City's Gotham Bar & Grill reviewed his newest menu for Singapore Airlines with the airline's chefs. This is their bi-annual tasting session, when the chefs trade ideas on in-flight presentation and preparation of some thirty meals that Portale has devised for the airline's US flights.
Curious to see exactly what the process is for creating an in-flight menu, especially one for the precise and exacting tastes of the passengers who fly in First and Business Class on Singapore, we took plenty notes and pictures as Portale and the Singapore chefs taste-tested an appetizer, an entree and two desserts from the upcoming summer menu. See the goodies after the jump!

Bozeman: Get INTO the Cold: Bozeman, Montana

Trying to flee the freezing temperatures sweeping across the country is natural, but predictable. Instead, do what folks in these frigid destinations do—embrace it and Get INTO the Cold. The trick to staying toasty is chill-killing gear and lots of bone warming activity. So stop moping around waiting for summer to arrive and head to these five crazy cold places and get your winter wonderland on.
Bozeman, Montana

Cold Meter: Moderate:
Temps can drop into the teens around these parts and coupled with snow, it’s a ski and snowboarding nirvana. This college town (though largely homogenous) is an hour away from the pricey Big Sky area and the general mission is providing affordable winter fun for its active locals.

Los Angeles: Did Kanye Really Throw A Fit On a Plane at LAX?

Even though Kanye West hasn't been making many public appearances lately, that doesn't mean he's been keeping quiet. He has been taking to his blog, defending himself against the haters and setting the record straight.
According to the NY Post, West freaked out in LAX Monday night on his way back to NYC from the Grammys because he and his assistant were seated in business class, not first class.

Louis Vuitton Wants to Track You and Your Heart Rate Around the World

News of a new sort of travel technology invention leaked out of the Louis Vuitton corporate giant recently, and although we doubt that it'll be successful, let along put into products, it's worth a mention. The idea is "emotion monitoring" bag accessories, like little gold or silver keychains for your bag, which are implanted with a heart and emotion-rate monitor and the capability to sync up with the owner's mobile device (ex: iPhone) to display this information on a map on the device. The resulting map will then be able to show you not only your walking, driving, flying, etc routes, but also exactly how you were feeling at any moment during that travel.
Agenda Inc says that the idea is still a concept, but the LV art director has posted this information himself. If it comes to be, it all seems a bit too Big Brother-ish and extraneous to catch on with more than just the hardcore LV junkies. That is, unless it's marketed as a bag tracking system; assuming you still have your iPhone and you bag has been stolen, you can use the app to track the stolen bag's route and send the police following. To that effect, this accessory could be used on most any bag, and only the most fashionable of thieves would have any clue about the real purpose of the (probably very expensive) bag jewelry.
As it is, we just don't see it being useful beyond that, and certainly not for travel purposes unless you're into analyzing after-the-fact travel info about your heart rate in the Louvre. What do you think of it? Would you buy it, or is it destined to stay a concept?
Related Stories:
· Louis Vuitton's emotion-monitoring bags [Agenda Inc]
· Advertising campaign and environmental design [Fernando Lahoz]
· Fashion Travel [Jaunted]

WA: Boeing Reveals a Sneak Peek Inside of Their New 787 Dreamliner

We’ve been more than a little excited over the Boeing 787, and we haven’t been afraid to show our love for the newest bird in the sky. However, we have grown a little tired just drooling over its composite body and sleek styling. That’s why we’re glad that Boeing has finally cracked the doors open to the plane to show off its interior goodies.
The current interior installed on the third test plane features fancy lighting, larger overhead bins, and boring seats with blue head rests. Don’t get disappointed if you don’t like what things look like right now, because once the planes get in the hands of the airlines, the interior will be altered and hopefully get cooler—hopefully. The latest in seating technology will probably find its way aboard this next generation airplane and, as long as it’s not face-to-face, it should be an improvement over current offerings.

Orlando: Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees is Going to Disney World…Today!

We learned something during this year's Super Bowl, after the win of the New Orleans Saints against the Indianapolis Colts. We learned that if we ever actually get to attend the Super Bowl in the future and it's back in Florida, that we should book a side-trip to Orlando's Disney World for the next day, because of the tradition for the Super Bowl MVP to go on a ticker tape parade through the park.
Saint's QB Drew Brees isn't going to mess up the tradition by turning down the offer to ride around with Mickey Mouse either; last night, at the end of the game, he was asked the traditional question—one dating back to 1987—that goes a little something like this: "You've just won the Super Bowl, what are you going to do next?" And of course he answered: "I'm going to Disney World."
The official @DisneyParks twitter confirms this, saying that Brees and a few teammates are scheduled to do the Magic Kingdom parade at 11:55am today. That gives you three hours—you Orlando-area football fans—to get to the park, but we'd hope that you had today off work first. And since a New Orleans ticker tape parade is inevitable, stay tuned to us here at Jaunted for news on that once the city has the official news out.
Related Stories:
· @DisneyParks [Twitter]
· Drew Brees: 'I'm Going to Disney World' [Disney Parks Blog]
· Football travel [Jaunted]

[Steelers 2009 parade photo: lifthill]
